Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Dr. Kailbeth Chacín is a passionate, versatile and dedicated musician who enjoys performing in all kinds of ensembles. Since a very young age, she has appeared as soloist with several orchestras in Venezuela and the US, such as the Orquesta Sinfónica Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho, Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Caracas, Orquesta Sinfónica de las Juventudes Larenses Pedro León Torres, Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, Virtuosi de Caracas Chamber Orchestra and the 2018 Music House International Symphony Orchestra, ensemble led by Mtro. Kensho Watanabe, and sharing the solo performance with violinist Marc Rovetti, Assistant Concertmaster to the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Dr. Chacín won third prize in the 2007 Juan Bautista Plaza National Violin Competition in Venezuela, first prize in the 2016 Shenandoah Conservatory Soloist Competition, Graduate Division, and that same year received the “Edwin Johonnott V Memorial Scholarship” from the Virginia String Teachers Association. As a music educator, Ms. Chacín has furthered the mission of the internationally acclaimed social music movement founded in Venezuela, “El Sistema,” and from 2006 to 2014, held a teaching position as a violin instructor at the renowned Emil Friedman Music Academy. In September 2017, Ms. Chacín joined the Teaching Artist faculty of the DC Youth Orchestra Program in Washington D.C., and in 2019 she joins the Community Music Academy of the Piedmont as a violin teacher. Parallel to her teaching activities, Dr. Chacín performs often with chamber and symphony orchestras in the Northern Virginia, D.C. and Maryland areas, such as Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, National String Symphonia, Northern Neck Orchestra, Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Dr. Chacín holds a Bachelor of Music, Performance degree from the Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Artes (Caracas, 2012), a Master of Music in Performance and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance degrees, both from Shenandoah Conservatory under the guidance of violinist Akemi Takayama, Concertmaster of the Roanoke and Williamsburg Symphony Orchestras and former member of the Audubon Quartet. In addition to acting as a teaching assistant, Dr. Chacín also served as Concertmaster and section leader of the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, leading sectionals and private coachings with undergraduate members of the orchestra. Her recent edition of the work Tres Estudios para violín solo by composer Miguel Astor, has been made available for purchase on the website Sheet Music Plus and can be heard on her own YouTube channel. Important professors and mentors include Emil Friedman, Alfonso López Chollet, Simón Gollo, Luis Miguél Gonzalez, Akemi Takayama, and Jan Wagner.
Dr. Chacín currently performs around the East Coast of the USA and teaches in person and virtually across the globe thanks to platforms like video conference platforms that have become popular in the recent years. She performs on a 1947 violin made by Italian luthier Paoli Luigi.
